![]() Physically comparing the actual circuit board on the Xonar card with the SB the board itself is thinner this makes no difference just an observation. ASUS does this because the card has 1/4 inch headphone plugs coming from the on board Headphone amp and there just isn't room for a dedicated coaxial, and optical outputs. The coaxial is a conventional RCA but the optical uses a special adapter which reaches into the back of the RCA jack to the optical portion located there. ![]() Now the Essence card The card has a odd digital output the jack incorporates both the coaxial and the optical output in one. I blew the Xonar drivers out and loaded them again and turned it over to 7-Zip and things went smoothly from there. I use 7-Zip File manager this is freeware. What is ASUS thinking? Make sure you have an unpacker that can handle any such file type. My troubles where self caused because I didn't at first realize I was dealing with a compressed file and not an executable. I always load new drivers from the devices support page. ![]() I had read all of the difficulty loading drivers. I finally decided it was time to try out the Xonar Essence SC. I have read about these Xonar sound cards but I was in something of a rut with the SB cards. I have used Creative Soundblaster sound cards for years just replacing one top of the line card with another. ![]()
